Théâtre de la Mode

With a world in restoration and a city in great need, the couturiers of Paris banded together after World War II to create one of the most telling and fully complete representations of fashion splendor.  The 1945 showing of the Théâtre de la Mode opened up a world of wearing apparel that was “perfection in miniature,” and not lacking a single exquisite detail for which the great haute couture Parisian houses are world famous.  The Théâtre de la Mode, permanently housed and preserved by the caring hands of Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale, Washington since 1952, lives as one of the most important collections of couture finery and masterworks in the world.  Regina Wentworth, traveling to the austere beauty of the Columbia Gorge in Washington State, often drew upon the inspirations of the extraordinary silhouettes and themes in the collection.  Tyler Wentworth®, admirer of the retrospective and great innovator of new style from vintage art, follows her aunt’s passions by creating breathtaking beauty inspired by the dramatic masters of the Théâtre de la Mode.

Le Petit Ensemble Noir - 2002
DRESSED DOLL
TDLM 201
LE 3000
$149.99

(Variegated brunette/red hair; blue eyes; bending arms)

Inspired by dramatic visions, this little black suit is fitted to perfection with a long basque jacket with black sequin bands.  Underneath is a sweet white-sequined plastron and straight skirt with an inverted pleat.  The full mystery is achieved with a small, black ciré toque with black ostrich feathers.

Reflet d'Argent - 2002
DRESSED DOLL
TDLM 202
LE 3000
$199.99

(Red hair; blue eyes; bending arms)

Parisian couture had long been well established by using draping techniques...one of which resulted in this inspired design.  Through remarkable reflections of silver over a pink shimmering base, this ball gown speaks to the grandest of galas.  Regally topped with a matching turban, her arms extend the beaded gauntlets to dance with the motion of her skirt’s voluminous folds.

Soir de Fête - 2002
DRESSED DOLL
TDLM 203
LE 3000
$199.99

(Red hair w/strawberry blonde hair; blue eyes; bending arms)

With lines inspired by The Theatre and a coiffure of sheer mastery in two hair tones, this celebration of evening commands ovations upon her arrival.  A long, black crepe gown featuring a trapeze neckline, she summons draping contrasts through the crepe with blue and pink satin ribbons, embroidered with delicate accents in bronze needlework and applied cabochons.

Fleurs du Mal - 2001
DRESSED DOLL
TDLM 001
LE 3000
$189.99

(Wheat blonde hair; blue eyes; original arms)

A daring sarcasm of ‘evil flowers’ over a draped column of candy-pink silk crepe speaks to the use of dark and light in wearing apparel.  This gown exhibits a blooming black embroidered bodice in illusion with short cap sleeves above the asymmetrical skirt with a sumptuously pleated side back.  Rising majestically above the composition is a tall fez of black feathers.

Longchamp Fleuri - 2001
DRESSED DOLL
TDLM 002
LE 3000
$189.99

(Red hair; blue eyes; bending arms)

The Theatre led a strong following of women in love with the freshness and contrasts used in the house’s daywear.  Drawing themes from couture ideals, this grey wool suit lined in mauve silk pulls dancing embroidered violets into the collar and corselet skirt.  Off-centered themes continue to speak through the ensemble’s waistline, hip treatments and the floating bow above the broad-brimmed straw hat.

Framboise Robe du Grande Soir - 2001
DRESSED DOLL
TDLM 003
LE 3000
$199.99

(Brunette hair; blue eyes; bending arms)

She is the grandest of gowns inspired by an undisputed mastery of cut.  In shimmering raspberry extravagance, the tiny collar and narrow sleeves contrast against the full skirt with delicate embroidery to unite the silhouette at a tiny waistline.  A sweet pillbox in matching embroidery tops this elegant and regal vision.

Did you know?  50 advance pieces of this doll were made for FAO Schwarz for their 2001 Holiday Catalog...although it did not include a certificate, the doll is identifiable by the beading that appears on the back of the doll.  The primary production run did not bead the reverse side of this doll's dress.
